Henry Clinton was a British general who fought in the American Revolution. He was Commander-in-Chief at the time that the colonies were lost. Not much is known of his early life and few details are known of his life after the war.

He was born April 16, 1730.
His father, George Clinton, was an Admiral in the Navy, and his mother, Anne Carle was the daughter of a general, so it’s very likely he grew up with stories that made him want to go into the military himself.
George Clinton was appointed governor of the Province of Newfoundland (including New York).
