Wolinsky) grew up in Europe and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she became a Canadian citizen in 1944. She obtained a diploma of Fine Art from the University of Manitoba in 1957 and spent summers studying at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan (1954, 1955), the University of Minnesota (1957), and the Banff School of the Arts (1963).
Her sculptures draw on events from her youth as well as the ways history and memory shape human identity. Working in wood, bronze, and clay, Stubbs has produced a large body of work that depicts the human figure in realistic and abstract form.
In 1984 Stubbs was commissioned to do a series of bronze panels for Winnipeg’s Law Courts building. Throughout her career, Stubbs also taught art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and Lakeh
